All three physical activity experience scores (amount, difficulty and total score) can be used as primary or secondary endpoint measures in clinical trials. In order to interpret your findings, remember:
- Amount score: higher values represent a higher amount of activity.
- Difficulty score: higher values represent a lesser degree of difficulty.
- Total score: higher values indicate a better score
Improving physical activity of COPD patients is: (i) to improve the experienced amount without a negative impact on the experienced difficulty; (ii) to improve the experienced difficulty without a negative impact on the experienced amount; or (iii) to improve both the experienced amount and difficulty. This may be of particular interest to understand the mechanisms through which short and long term interventions result in benefits.
