Interpreting the C-PPAC

All three physical activity experience scores (amount, difficulty and total score) can be used as primary or secondary endpoint measures in clinical trials. In order to interpret your findings, remember:

  • Amount score: higher values represent a higher amount of activity.
  • Difficulty score: higher values represent a lesser degree of difficulty.
  • Total score: higher values indicate a better score

Improving physical activity of COPD patients is: (i) to improve the experienced amount without a negative impact on the experienced difficulty; (ii) to improve the experienced difficulty without a negative impact on the experienced amount; or (iii) to improve both the experienced amount and difficulty. This may be of particular interest to understand the mechanisms through which short and long term interventions result in benefits.
